If you've noticed any small, very itchy bites that don't seem to go away but multiply on your feet, ankles and lower legs and you own a pet, you very likely have a house with fleas.

First, treat your pet with a product like Revolution. There are other products on the market but they contain pesticides and so are bad for your pet and the environment.

Second, treat your house by treating your carpet, the most likely place for the fleas to hibernate. Boric acid is one of the best things you can use. It's cheap, pretty safe, and it works. Purchase at Ace Hardware or Home Depot. Sprinkle liberally on your carpet and use a broom to get it down into the carpet. Let it sit for 5 day and then vacuum.

Prevent your pet and house from getting fleas in the first place by either keeping your pet indoors OR treating your pet before flea season starts. Ask your vet when to start treating as this could vary by region.
