Like humans, cats have both internal and external lymph nodes in their bodies. While external lymph nodes are easily located and able to be examined with the hand, the internal lymph nodes are only accessible through surgery or information found with blood tests.

Internal Lymph Nodes
-
The internal lymph nodes are found in both the thoracic and abdominal cavities of the cat. While some are visible through x-ray, others are only able to be examined through surgery.
Submandibular
-
The submandibular lymph nodes are located in the neck, near the bottom of the jaw. These are close to the salivary glands in the neck and should not be confused with them.
Prescapular
-
The prescapular lymph nodes are found right in front of the cat's shoulders.
Axillary
-
The axillary lymph nodes are located on the cat's chest behind his front legs.
Inguinal
-
The inguinal lymph nodes are found on the stomach area, just inside each rear leg. These can be hard to locate, because of the amount of fat found in this area.
Popliteal
-
The popliteal lymph nodes are located on the cat's rear legs, directly opposite the knees.
