About Deworming Medicine for Kittens

All kittens are prone to worms, no matter how clean their living area. Kittens are especially prone to three types of worms: roundworms, hookworms and tapeworms. Kittens can get their first worming medications at 2 to 3 weeks old. They get dosed again every two weeks until they are three months old, then need only one dose per month until they are six months old.

  1. Fenbenbazole

    • It's also known by the brand name Panacur. It works better when it is given with food. It is also safe for pregnant cats.

    Piperazine

    • This is in a lot of over-the-counter wormers and is one of the most popular dewormers for kittens. It should not be given to sick kittens.

    Dosage

    • Dosage is done by the kitten's weight. If you do not know your kitten's weight, let a vet administer the dose. Too much deworming medicine can make your kitten ill.

    Allergic Reactions

    • Allergic reactions to dewormers include vomiting, diarrhea and dizziness. If your kitten experiences these or any other sudden alarming symptoms, call a vet immediately.

    Fact

    • Roundworms can transfer to humans from cat feces, so you need to deworm your kittens in order to protect you and your family.
