Fleas can be pesky and extremely irritating to the pet they inhabit, especially a cat. Fortunately, Dog Advantage Flea Control is a veterinarian-recommended powder that works wonders and can keep fleas off of your cat for months, even though it is designed for dogs. It is also easily absorbed into the skin.
Instructions
Give your cat a good bath around 1 to 2 days before you apply the Dog Advantage Flea Control. This is to be sure that the medication soaks into the skin properly.
Ask your family veterinarian about applying Advantage Flea Control onto your cat. Since it is formulated for dogs, you will want to make sure that you give the right dosage to your cat, not too small or too large. Advantage is packaged according to the weight class of pets. You will typically be using the smallest dosage provided, but it is best to make sure this is correct.
Wear plastic gloves when applying Advantage, just as a precaution.
Approach your cat when he is calm and relaxed. You will probably need someone else, a friend or family member, to help subdue your cat. Face him away from you in your lap, holding tightly to him.
Hold the Advantage Flea Control in your free hand and take the cap from it. Most caps will have a pointy end that you can turn around and use to break the seal on the bottle. You should hold the tube loosely and upright, so that it does not spill on you.
Separate the fur on your cat's back far enough so that you can easily see the skin underneath.
Apply the Advantage medication to the skin that you can see, and gently massage it in.
Move your hand down your cat's back. Apply, at around 1-inch intervals, Advantage Flea Control to each section, making sure that it gets rubbed in carefully and evenly.
Reapply Advantage flea Control every 4 weeks, or more if the cat happens to get wet often. If not, one month intervals should work well to keep fleas from your cat.
