How do you know if a puncture wound from house cat is infected?

Signs of an infected puncture wound from a house cat scratch include;

* Increasing pain, redness, swelling and feeling hot to touch around the wound.

* Red streaks extending from the wound.

* Wound that's oozing pus.

* Fever

* Fatigue.

* Swollen lymph nodes.

Seek immediate medical care if any of the symptoms are present to avoid developing;

- Infections that spread to bones and joints.

- Sepsis, a bodywide reaction to an infection that can be life threatening.

- Endocarditis, an infection of the heart's inner lining that's mostly caused by bacteria that spread from another infection.

- Abscess formation which refers to the collection of infected fluid in a body tissue.
