What should you do if a cat sedative takes too long to wear off?

DO NOT induce vomiting

DO NOT let your cat drink alcohol

DO NOT give your cat coffee, tea, chocolate or other things containing caffeine

DO NOT shake or move your cat around aggressively

DO NOT place your cat in a bucket or tub of water

DO NOT give your cat any human medications

Here is what you can do:

1. If the cat is still under the influence of the sedative after four to six hours, contact the prescribing veterinarian.

2. Keep your cat in a quiet and comfortable area.

3. Provide fresh water and encourage the cat to drink.

4. Offer small amounts of food and water on a frequent basis if your cat is exhibiting any signs of dehydration or hunger.

5. If your cat is panting excessively or has trouble breathing, take them to the nearest emergency veterinary clinic immediately.
