Would an RRT work in a Cath Lab?
An RRT (registered respiratory therapist) can work in a Cath Lab. Although rare, the Cath Lab can utilize an RRT for support in managing advanced airway emergencies that may arise during cardiovascular-related cases. The Cath Lab team typically consists of interventional cardiologists, nurses, technologists, and support staff trained in cardiovascular care procedures but may rely on the expertise of an RRT to provide specialized respiratory care in complex cases involving difficult intubations, ventilator management, airway emergencies, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation during percutaneous coronary intervention or structural heart procedures. While the Cath Lab team is composed of highly skilled medical professionals focused on cardiovascular treatments, having an RRT on the team adds an additional layer of expertise in advanced respiratory care when and if needed.
