Cat Flap Installation

If you are sick and tired of smelly cat boxes and having to get up to let the cat out every single time the fuzzball wants to go out, a cat flap is the perfect solution. Installing a cat flap into a door or wall isn't too difficult if you are careful to pay attention to your handiwork. When you get the pet flap set up, you will be able to enjoy the smell of a cat-box-free home and the cat will be thrilled with its new-found ability to come and go at will.

Instructions

    • 1

Trace a square on the wall using a ruler as a straight edge. Have the bottom of the flap approximately the same height from the ground as the cat's underside. Make sure the pencil template is a perfect square on your surface.

    • 2

Drill a hole into each of the four corners of the square as insertion points for the jigsaw.

    • 3

Cut along the square pencil drawing using a jigsaw and remove the square section of the surface.

    • 4

Smooth out the edges of the hole with sandpaper.

    • 5

Place the cat flap over the hole in the orientation you intend to install it. Create pencil spots through the screw holes in the flap as a guideline.

    • 6

Remove the cat flap and drill holes. Reinsert the cat flap and screw in the portal using the holes you have just drilled.

    • 7

Caulk the outer edges of the cat flap to keep outside air and insects out.
