How to Wrap Jute Around a Cat Tree

Cats scratch primarily to communicate with other cats. A scratched up tree, fence post or sofa is an obvious message to other cats, essentially it says, "Fluffy was here." Scratching also leaves behind scent markers from glands in the cat's paws. They scratch to stretch after a nap, to keep their claws sharp and healthy and possibly to relieve tension. Providing your cats with a jute or sisal-wrapped cat tree is a wonderful way to keep them happy and your furniture safe. Cat trees are tall scratching posts with any number of platforms where cats can sleep or play. The trees are primarily covered in carpet with sections wrapped in jute for scratching.

Secure the rope to the cat tree. Place the rope as close to the top of the tree as possible and secure it with two or three small nails. The size of the nails will depend on the thickness of the rope you are using.

    • 2

Wind the rope around the post. Wear gloves during this step so you don't get slivers or rope burn. Wrap the rope tightly around the post making sure you don't leave any gaps or spaces. Continue wrapping until you reach the bottom of the post.

Secure the rope to the bottom of the post. Using two or three nails secure the end of the rope to the bottom of the post.
