Make Your Urn
Purchase an unfinished wood box. The box you select should have a lid -- either hinged or unhinged -- and enough space on it for you to add your personal touches. You can find pre-made wooden boxes at most craft stores, or in the craft aisles of department stores.
Write the cat's name on the box with a pencil. You can also add the dates of birth and death, as well as any design pattern you would like on the box.
Engrave the pencil drawings with a wood-burning tool, which you can find at most craft and department stores. You will need to plug it in and allow it to become hot before you use it. The hotter it is, the better it will carve into the wood. Simply press down with the wood-burning tool slowly, following the pattern that you have drawn with the pencil.
Cut out a favorite picture of your cat and attach it to the box using craft glue or a glue gun. Allow the glue to dry completely. Be sure not to saturate the back of the photo with glue, or the glue may soak through the picture. A light coat of glue will suffice.
Use polyurethane or wood laminate to coat the box. This coating will protect the picture and the woodworking and bring out the natural grain of the wood. It will seal the seams on the wood as well.
Complete Your Urn
Measure the sides and bottom of the interior of the box with a measuring tape. Measure both the width and height of each wall. Then measure the bottom of the box, both height and width.
Cut out felt with scissors, using the measurements that you have taken. Glue the felt into the interior of the box using craft glue and allow it to dry.
Turn the box upside down and glue the felt to the bottom of the box.
