How do I Troubleshoot a Cat Genie?

The CatGenie is a self-cleaning and scooping cat litter box. It comes with special litter that is washed by the machine either automatically or by pressing a button. Most is reused to reduce waste but it will need periodic refills. It also connects to a drainage so there is no need to dump or touch any litter. To prevent any malfunctions, it is important to install and use the CatGenie according to the user's manual.

  1. Troubleshooting

    • 1

Remove processing unit without unplugging the CatGenie if the light is indicating an "Error 1." Take the water sensor from the hopper and clean it with a soft cloth. If it is missing, then a replacement sensor will be needed for it to work properly.

    • 2

Check the water supply valve and drain hose if the control panel is flashing an "Error 2." Make sure that the water supply for the cold water is turned on and connected properly. The hoses should not be bent or crippled. Turn off the water supply, then check both the water supply hose and the drain hose for any blockage. Running the dishwasher or washing machine may cause the water pressure to be low so do not use them at the same time as the cat genie. After checking all the hoses, press the start button for four seconds to begin the cycle again.

    • 3

Feel whether the granules are dry, wet, or damp. If they are dry and not clean, then clean the sensor with cloth wet with lemon juice to clean away any lime. If the granules are wet or damp, here is a problem with the drain. Check the hoses to make sure they are not pinched. The coil should wrap loosely with no sharp bends. If the drain pipe is more than four feet off the ground, it can effect the drain and prevent it from completely drying.

    • 4

Move the CatGenie at least two inches away from the wall. If it is indicating an "Error 4," then make sure vents are not blocked. Vacuum the vents to remove any dust and blockage. Let it cool for 20 minutes, then press the start button for four seconds to resume drying.
