Instructions

    • 1

Choose a basket or box in which your cat will fit comfortably. This basket will be the frame for your cat bed. Choose one with sides that are several inches tall. The cushions will have a total height of about 4 inches, so take that into account when choosing your bed frame.

    • 2

Choose fabric that will wash easily. Smooth fabrics, such as quilter’s cotton, are better than fabrics such as velvet.

    • 3

Trace the bottom of the basket onto the newspaper. Add an inch and a half to all sides of the tracing. This will be your pattern for the cat bed cushions. Cut out the pattern.

    • 4

Fold the fabric into fourths and pin the pattern to the fabric. Cut around the pattern piece to get 4 pieces of fabric.

    • 5

Pin two fabric pieces, right sides together. Sew on the machine with a ½-inch seam allowance. Sew three sides and most of the fourth, leaving a 3-inch gap for turning and stuffing.

    • 6

Turn the cushion right-side out. Stuff with the stuffing. Hand sew the gap closed.

    • 7

Repeat the last two steps with the remaining two fabric pieces.

    • 8

Place the cushions in the basket.
