DIY Wood Cat Litter Pan Cover

If you have a cat in your home, you need a litter box. But litter pans can be unsightly, and many cat owners look for creative ways to hide them. However, you do not have to spend money on a litter pan cover from a pet store. With just a few dollars' worth of materials, you can make a DIY wood cover to camouflage the litter pan and provide your cat with a comfortable place for a catnap.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length and width of your litter box with a measuring tape. The litter box cover you build should be at least a few inches wider and longer than the litter pan.

    • 2

Use a saw to cut two pieces of wood to a length of at least two to three inches longer than the litter pan. These pieces will form the sides of the litter pan cover. Wood that is between 1/2" and 1" thick works best. The pieces of wood should be at least one and a half to two feet high. This will give your cat the clearance he needs when entering and exiting the litter box.

    • 3

Cut two pieces of wood that are two to three inches wider than the litter pan. Use the same thickness of wood you used for the side pieces. These pieces will form the front and back of the litter pan cover.

    • 4

Place the piece of wood to be used as the back of the box flat on a hard surface and nail them with a hammer or use wood glue to attach it to the two side pieces. Allow the glue to dry if using glue.

    • 5

Cut a piece of wood the same length as the two side pieces and attach it to the top of the box using nails or wood glue. Then cut another piece that is the same size as the back piece. This will form the front of the box.

    • 6

Cut a hole in the front piece large enough for your cat to move in and out of the litter box. Use a hand sander to smooth any sharp edges. Attach the front piece to the rest of the box using nails or wood glue.

    • 7

Place the completed cover over the litter pan. Place a line or two of adhesive-backed hook-and-loop tape (such as Velcro) across the top of the box and corresponding lines of tape on the bottom of a cat bed. Stick the cat bed to the top of the litter box cover.
