Hidden Litter Box Ideas

If you have a cat in the home, a quality litter box is an absolute must. Unfortunately those litter boxes can be very unsightly, and having a litter box out in the open can ruin the look of the entire room. That is why it is important for cat owners to come up with creative ideas to hide the litter box while still ensuring that all the cats have access to it. With a little bit of creativity, cat owners can turn that unsightly litter box into a lovely piece of furniture.
  1. Litter Box Laundry Center

    • Many cat owners find that the best place for the litter box is in the laundry room. Placing the litter box in the laundry room makes sense for many different reasons, including the fact that family members typically do not congregate in the laundry room. Even so, a litter box out in the open is unsightly, and many cat owners prefer to transform that unsightly box into a useful piece of furniture for sorting laundry and storing detergents. Building a three-sided cabinet over the litter box is an excellent way to gain more storage space while keeping the litter box hidden from view. You can use the top of the cabinet to sort clothes, while pockets or shelves built into each side can store bottles of laundry detergent, fabric softener and dryer sheets.

    The Perfect Catnap Perch

    • Cats are always looking for a warm place to curl up and go to sleep, and with a few simple tools, cat owners can create a wonderful catnap perch using the wasted space above the litter box. Simply use a few pieces of scrap wood to create a three-sided cabinet---leave the front open to let the kitty move in and out easily. Make sure the cabinet is high enough so that your cat can move in and out without ducking down. Then, attach some old carpeting to the top of the cabinet, and you have an instant cat perch for just a couple of bucks. Plus, the cabinet hides the litter box from view. You can buy a couple of plastic hooks and use them to hang the litter scoop and other items, making the perch even more useful. When it is time to clean the litter box, just pick up the perch and sit it to the side.

Convert a Blanket Chest to a Hidden Litter Box

    • If you have an old blanket chest that you no longer need, you can convert it into a decorative litter box cabinet. Just use a saw to cut out a door for your cat to go in and out, and then open the hinged top and place the litter box inside. This makes it easy to clean the litter box as well---all you need to do is lift the lid on the blanket chest and pull the litter box out. After the box has been cleaned and new litter put in, just close the hinged lid and it is ready for use again. You can create an impromptu catnapper with this design as well---just place a couple of old blankets on top of the lid, and your cat will have a warm place to sleep.
