Ideas for Cat Furniture

You love your cat, so you want to give it the happiest, most comfortable life possible. One way to do that is to surround it with furniture designed especially for cats.
  1. Cat trees

    • Many cats love to climb and jump and can often be found at the highest point in the room. Cat trees, also known as kitty condos, are a way for indoor cats to jump, climb and play to their heart's content. They usually are vertical and incorporate platforms of different heights. Often, they are carpeted to allows cats to sharpen their claws without destroying couches and chairs. It also provides a cozy place for a nap when playtime is over. For more fun, dangle strings or cat toys from different levels.

    Scratching posts

    • If your cat uses its claws to destroy upholstery and other items you'd rather remain intact, try giving it the option of a scratching post. Usually, these are vertical posts covered in some kind of material---different cats like different textures, so try different weights of carpet, cardboard and wood. The ASPCA says cats also use these to stretch, so it's best if the scratching post is at least as tall as the cat is when the cat is fully extended.

    Beds and perches

    • Cat beds are a cozy spot for Kitty to snooze. Plus, they offer an alternative to jumping on furniture you may have decided is for humans only.

The ASPCA recommends lining your cat's sleeping area with soft blankets or towels and washing them often. There are many options for purchasing a cat bed, from the simplest doughnut shapes to therapeutic heat models

You can also make kitty comfortable using items you already have. A pillow and a soft blanket are all you need to make a comfortable resting spot.

Some cats also enjoy a window perch. The ASPCA suggests a installing a folding perch with hinges under a window, so Kitty can enjoy the sunshine and keep an eye on what's happening outside.
