How to Build a Cat Window Perch with No Screws

Many cats enjoy sitting in the window and watching the world go by, but they don̵7;t always fit on a narrow windowsill. Cat perches afford a comfortable seat, but apartment-dwelling cat owners often can̵7;t use screws to mount a cat perch to the windowsill or wall. This simple cat seat attaches with removable Velcro tape and braces itself harmlessly against the wall to support your cat̵7;s weight. It is a cost-effective alternative to expensive pre-made seats.

Instructions

    • 1

      Measure your windowsill.

    • 2

Cut a length of 1x12 board that is 1 inch shorter than the width of the windowsill.

    • 3

Cut 1x2 board into 18-inch lengths, trimming one end of each piece at 45 degrees.

    • 4

Apply Velcro along one long edge of the 1x12 and along the corresponding section of windowsill. Leave this in place, propping it up if needed.

    • 5

Place the 45-degree edge of one 1x2 against the wall, and adjust its height until it crosses the corner of the 1x12 furthest from the window. Mark the excess by tracing along the top of the 1x12 onto the 1x2. Repeat on the other side. Remove the 1x12 from the windowsill.

    • 6

Cut the excess from your 1x2 supports.

    • 7

Nail the 1x2 supports onto the outside corners of the 1x12. Replace in the window, ensuring that the Velcro strips on the board and the windowsill are firmly attached. The 1x2 pieces should rest firmly against the wall.

Add cushion or pillow for the cat to sit or lie down and relax.
