You can make your cat a lot more comfortable by custom-building her a window perch and attaching it to your window sill. Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length of your window sill and cut your plywood a few inches shorter than the sill. Make the plywood deep enough so your cat will have a comfortable place to stretch out.

    • 2

Place the cut piece of plywood against the window sill and mark the spots on the window sill where the piece will be screwed into place. Using a pencil, mark those spots on both the window sill and the plywood.

    • 3

Drill pilot holes into the window sill, using the pencil marks as your guide. Also drill holes in the plywood sheet, using the pencil marks you made on the wood.

    • 4

Place the plywood sheet against the window sill and place the wood screws through the sheet and partway into the holes in the window sill. This will hold the plywood in place while you mark the location of the wood slats.

    • 5

Place one end of the wood slat against the bottom of the plywood sheet and the other end against the wall. Mark the spot where the slats will attach to the plywood. Secure the wood slats to the plywood with glue and then nail them into place.

    • 6

Place the plywood on the window sill and secure it with screws. After the window perch is securely in place, use wood glue to attach the carpet scrap to the top of the plywood. Use a thick, soft piece of carpet to give your cat a comfortable place to relax and enjoy the sun.
