Instructions

    • 1

Measure the chosen window's length. Mark the wood with the measurements before cutting it, and also mark the measurements on the carpet. Be sure that all materials and tools are laid out before you begin the project.

    • 2

Wearing safety goggles, cut a thick piece of flat wood to the width that will work best with the window's width. Cut the piece of wood to the proper depth for the chosen brackets.

    • 3

Cut the carpet with a utility knife so that it's a bit more than the wood's width, and just over twice as long as what will be needed to wrap the carpet around the wood.

    • 4

Staple one edge of the carpet securely to the underside of the wood. Pull the carpet tight and staple the other end to the underside. Cut off any access carpet.

    • 5

Staple the edges of the carpet securely to the edges of the piece of wood, tucking one end under the other for neatness.

    • 6

Screw the first bracket to the underside of the carpeted wood at least two inches in from the edge. Be sure that the other side of the bracket will be even with the wall. Repeat this process with the second bracket at the opposite end of the carpeted wood. Make sure that the brackets are attached to the carpeted wood securely so that the perch will not wobble dangerously.

    • 7

Place the cat perch against the wall where it will be attached. Hold it into place securely, or have someone else hold it for you, so that it does not slip while being attached.

    • 8

Screw the brackets to the wall just beneath the window sill. Tighten well enough so that there is no space between the wall and the bracket. Be sure that the bracket will not easily detach itself from the wall before letting the cat use the perch. You can do this by putting some pressure on the perch with your hand.

    • 9

Have the cat jump up onto the perch to double-check that it's secure. The cat should be able to do this without the perch wobbling.
