How to Make a Cat Bed for Double Hung Windows

Many modern windows have shallow sills too small for Kitty to sit on and look out at the world. Cat beds for windows act as a window sill enlarger, so your cat can hang out and take in the view and sun. When it comes to a cat bed for a double-hung window, you can buy one ready-made, or you can make your own with a few supplies. The double-hung window shuts on the cat bed to create a platform flush with the window.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach the carpet to the piece of wood using the staples or furniture tacks. The soft side of the carpet should cover the top where the cat will sit. Secure the carpet on the underside of the wood.

    • 2

Using the wood screws, fasten the L-shaped brackets on the underside of the wood, flush on the 19-inch side.

    • 3

Use two more wood screws to screw the shelf bracket onto the bottom side, flush on the long side, centered between the short sides. You do not need to screw the shelf bracket into the wall; gravity holds it in place.

    • 4

Open the window and place the cat bed into position.

    • 5

Screw the L-shaped bracket to the double hung window frame. Shut the window. This will secure the cat bed.

    • 6

Inspect the cat bed to make sure it is level and the shelf bracket is against the wall. Make minor adjustments as necessary.
