Choose a type of costume you are sure that your cat will wear. If you know your cat does not like to wear hats, do not choose a costume with a hat. Costumes usually are either hats, collars or around the neck, or items that fit on the back/body.
Choose the costume you like best and the one you think your cat will wear. Choose the size you think is appropriate. Check the price at the store you found the costume and the name of the costume.
Use the Internet to search for the same costume at a cheaper price elsewhere, either another store in your area or to purchase online. Purchase the most inexpensive option for the costume you chose. Take shipping costs into account before deciding to purchase from an online store.
Let your cat smell the costume before putting it on. Put the costume on gently, while petting your cat to let him know the costume is not going to hurt him.
