Helping Your Cat Acclimate
-
The Littermaid is different than most standard litter boxes, and your cat may need time to become comfortable with the new box. To help, set the Littermaid litter box next to the old box. Do not clean the old litter box. Cats prefer using clean litter. Your cat should eventually start using the Littermaid litter box when it tires of using the dirty litter box.
If your cat is still uncomfortable with the Littermaid box, turn off the automatic cleaning system. When your cat eventually begins using the box, use the manual cleaning option so the cat becomes familiar with how the box operates. After a few days your cat should be more comfortable with the box and you can set the automatic function of the Littermaid.
Litter Considerations
-
The effectiveness of the Littermaid litter box is determined by the type of litter you use and by following the fill instructions. The Littermaid uses an electric rake to remove clumps from the box automatically. The rake works best with high-grade litter that creates tight clumps of cat waste. Using a lower quality litter may result in looser clumps of cat waste, which the rake will have more difficulty picking up.
The amount of litter placed in the Littermaid litter box may have an effect on its operation. The box has fill lines on the box that show you the proper amount of litter that should be used. Overfilling the box may have an adverse effect on normal operation.
Finally, dust from litter may cover the sensors and prevent the Littermaid from working properly. If the sensors are covered in dust, they may not recognize the cat walking into the litter box and will not operate when the cat is done. Wipe the dust off of the sensors if needed.
Litter Tray
-
If waste clumps regularly stick to the litter tray, remove the tray from the Littermaid and wash it off with soap and warm water. Lubricate the tray with a silicone spray and wipe it off with a dry cloth. This should keep waste clumps from sticking to the tray.

Littermaid Hints
The Littermaid Self-Cleaning Litter Box is an electricity-powered, automatic litter box cleaner. The box automatically scoops cat waste out of the litter box into a waste disposal container each time the cat uses the box. You can get the most out of your Littermaid by helping your cat acclimate to the new box and by using the right type and amount of litter.
