How to Keep Cat Litter From Getting All Over The Floor

Cats are sweet, lovable pets to have around, but often are messy roommates when it comes to their cat litter. Some cats are so meticulous that they need to cover up every bit of urination and feces. This causes them to kick a lot of the cat litter out of the box and all around the floor. Keeping up with the cleaning of cat litter sprinkles on the floor can be a tedious job.

Place a pad or newspapers under the cat litter box. Cat litter messes can be kept tidy by placing the cat litter box on top of newspapers or a potty pad. When your cat uses the litter box, litter will get kicked onto the newspaper instead of the floor. Cleaning up cat litter will be much easier this way as you can pick up the cat litter box, hold up the sides of the newspaper so litter slides to the middle, and pour the litter back into the cat litter box.

Put a lid on your cat's litter box. Buying a litter box that comes with a lid will help to keep kitty litter neatly in the cat's litter box. You can also find lids that fit the cat litter box you already have, but they may not work as well. Most litter boxes that come with lids are made to fit perfectly to keep kitty litter inside. Cat litter boxes that come with lids also keep the kitty litter smell trapped inside to help your home smell fresher. You can purchase cat litter boxes with lids at any pet supply store.

Purchase litter boxes with higher sides. There are standard cat litter boxes, and there are those that have higher sides, designed to keep cat litter inside the box. If you have an adult cat, buying a cat litter box with higher sides will work well. However, if you have a kitten, he will not be able to straddle the side of the box to get in it. You may need to decide if you want to purchase a small-sized litter box for a kitten and then buy the higher side litter box later when he is grown. Or, instead of a litter box, buy a large storage container and throw away the lid. The high sides will keep the litter off the floor.
