In a glass mixing bowl combine 4 parts baking soda to one part vinegar. White vinegar is usually the best for getting rid of cat urine odors from carpets.
Take a large, clean bath towel and soak up as much of the unwanted cat urine as possible from the carpeting area. You might need several towels. Have patience and keep right on soaking up the unwanted cat urine.
Pour the mixture you made in step 1 onto the area. Use a soft bristle brush to gently work the solution into the carpet. Don't rub hard or you will mess up the carpet fibers. You might have to hold your nose for this step to get rid of cat urine odors from carpets. It can be pretty smelly.
Wait one hour. Let the mixture set into the carpet area that has the cat urine. This will give it time to deodorize and pull out the cat urine odor.
Repeat step 2 with blotting the area where there is unwanted cat urine and cat urine odor.
Allow the area to completely air dry. Sprinkle baking soda on the carpet where you cleaned out the cat urine and cat urine odor. Wait one hour. Vacuum the carpet area where you cleaned out the cat urine and cat urine odor.
