Things You'll Need
- (1) 18-inch plywood square
- (1) 24-inch plywood square
- (1) 2 x 4-inch plywood, 48" long
- 5 butt-hinges
- Scrap carpet
- Staple gun and 3/8" staples
Instructions
Center the 2 x 4 in the middle of the 24" plywood square while someone holds it in place.
Attach the 2 x 4 on one of the 4-inch sides to the center of the 24" plywood square using a butt-hinge and screws. Repeat this process on the other side. The 2 x 4 will stand on its own at this point, perpendicular to the square.
Wrap scrap carpet around the 24" plywood square while someone holds the carpet in place. Turn the plywood square on its side to access the bottom and use the staple gun to fasten the carpet to the wood on the underside of the 24" plywood square using 3/8" stainless steel staples. Staple the carpet around the edges approximately every 2".
Attach the 18" piece of plywood approximately 18" below the top of the 2 x 4 using two butt-hinges, making sure to center the plywood on the 2 x 4. Attach two butt-hinges underneath the 18" plywood square as well, to make sure it stays in place when weight is added to it.
Stand the climbing post back up and wrap scrap carpet around the 2 x 4, stapling the carpet in place as you move around the sides. Staple carpet all the way up and around the 2 x 4 until you reach the 18" plywood square.
Cover the 18" plywood square with carpet and fasten it in place by stapling the carpet underneath the plywood square.
Finish wrapping the 2 x 4 in scrap carpet so cats won't hurt their claws when climbing. Your cat climbing furniture is complete once you have covered all of the plywood with scrap carpet.
