How to Make a Cat Collar

In theory, the idea of a cat collar is a good one. You want your beloved kitty to be wearing identification if she gets lost but, in reality, cat collars aren't such a good idea because of the safety issue. Cats love to climb trees and explore nooks and crannies so even a breakaway safety collar can cause problems for your kitty, such as choking, if she gets hung up on something. However, making a cat collar for your pet for a special dress-up photography session is fun and this simple collar is made from fabric trim and Velcro and is inexpensive to make. Please remember, though, this collar should only be worn by your pet while she is being supervised.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

Measure your kitty's neck and add 1 1/2 inches. This is the length of fabric trim you need. Hand stitch or machine stitch a narrow hem on each end of fabric trim.

    • 2

Stitch or glue Velcro strips to fabric trim for the collar fastener. You'll need to put a piece on right side of trim at one end, then put the other piece on the opposite side of trim at the other end.

To jazz up kitty's collar, add some appliqués with glue or stitch them on. Some fun appliqué ideas are glittery gold moons, sparkling silver stars or tiny orange fish.
