How to Set Up a LitterMaid Model LM500 Litter Box

The LitterMaid LM500 is self-cleaning litter box that saves you the bother of constantly scooping and cleaning your cat's littler. The litter box rakes your cat's waste 10 minutes after the cat uses the litter. The waste is placed into a sealable container, which prevents odor. The litter box operates under low voltage using a D cell battery. Once you've successfully set up your LitterMaid Model LM500 litter box, you'll be able to save time and help create a pleasant smelling and healthy environment for you and your cat.

  1. How to Set Up a LitterMaid Model LM500 Litter Box

    • 1

After opening the box, make sure you have all of the necessary items, including the litter box, AC adaptor, LitterMaid triple-action tool, disposable waste receptacles, cleaning brush and the Use and Care book (see References).

    • 2

Use scissors to cut the plastic ties on the rake inside the litter box. Undo the tape on the waste receptacle cover and the battery cover. The battery will now be actionable. Also, remove all of the styrofoam from the top of the rake.

    • 3

Install a waste receptacle if there is not already one installed. All new models come with a receptacle already installed. Place the receptacle under the receptacle cover by placing in directly under five tabs. Place the receptacle lid of the compartment by inserting the push tabs into the aligned holes. Carbon filters, which are sold separately, fit into the inside center of the lid.

    • 4

Place the litter into the box, filling it up just below the "Fill Line." Be sure to use non-clumping litter and to never fill above the line, which could cause a jam in the rake.

    • 5

Plug the AC adaptor into an outlet and into the back of the LitterMaid LM500. When you first switch the machine to "On," a red light will turn on. The rake will begin its first cleaning and smooth the litter. Make sure to run the rake directly after completing the set up to ensure proper installation. Don't let your cat use the litter box until you've tested the rake.
