How to Clean a LitterMaid Litter Box

The LitterMaid self-cleaning litter box is popular among the feline crowd and their cat owners. With this box, you don't have to scoop clumps of litter out of a box, and it eliminates odor. However, while most of the heavy duty litter box cleaning is eliminated, you still must clean the box regularly.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the rake in the starting position, at the back of the litter box. The back of the litter box is opposite the side that contains the waste receptacle.

    • 2

Turn the LitterMaid litter box off. Don't clean the litter box when it is on. Unplug the unit from the outlet so you don't accidentally turn it on when you are cleaning it.

    • 3

Press the two buttons on the waste receptacle cover. This will release the disposable waste receptacle lid from the cover. Lift the cover and remove the entire waste receptacle with the lid and dispose of it. Replace the waste receptacle and attach a new lid to the cover by lining up the buttons and applying slight pressure upward.

    • 4

Lift the latches on both sides of the unit and lift up to release the tray from the main part of the litter box. Dispose of the used litter. Use a damp cloth or paper towel to wipe the litter tray. You can also take the litter tray to the sink, immerse it in some soapy water and give it a good scrub.

    • 5

Refill the litter tray with clumping litter. Replace the main housing on the litter tray by lining it up and applying slight pressure until it clicks in place. Vacuum up any spilled litter after the cleaning has been completed.

    • 6

Plug the unit back in and turn it on. Let the rake move through the litter to set itself and to make sure everything is working properly.
