A DIY Suitcase Cat Bed

Cats are a part of the family. It is only natural that you want to give your feline friend a comfortable living environment, equipped with a comfortable bed. Store-bought pet beds are expensive. Instead of buying one, you can make a cat bed with scrap fabric and an old suitcase that you already have or one found at a yard sale or thrift store. This simple do-it-yourself project requires no sewing and is inexpensive. The finished product is comfy and travel-friendly, so you can take your beloved pet with you wherever you go.

Instructions

    • 1

Paint four wooden doll heads in a color that matches the suitcase or choice of fabric. Allow the paint to dry.

    • 2

Turn the suitcase upside-down, and rest it on a flat surface. Dab epoxy-based glue on the flat part of a doll head, and affix it to one corner of the bottom of the suitcase. Glue the other three doll heads to the remaining corners of the suitcase. Allow the glue to dry.

    • 3

Set a piece of fabric on a flat surface, printed-side down. Place a suitcase-sized (or slightly larger) pillow in the center of the fabric. Cut the fabric around the pillow, leaving about 6 inches of extra fabric around the perimeter of the pillow.

    • 4

Fold the edges of the fabric up around the pillow. Place the fabric-covered pillow into the deepest side of the suitcase. Tuck the fabric down under the pillow.

    • 5

Drill a pilot hole on the nonhinged side of the outer suitcase lid. Screw the eye into the pilot hole by hand. Rest the suitcase lid on a wall where you would like the cat bed to go. Check where the eye hits the wall.

    • 6

Drill a pilot hole into the wall where the eye meets the wall. The hook should be inserted into a wall stud for best security. Locate studs with a stud finder, if necessary. Screw the hook into the pilot hole. Insert the hook into the eye to secure the cat-bed lid to the wall.
