How to Make a Paper Hat for a Cat

Many pet retailers sell clothing for pets, including small, cat-sized hats. You can use these hats to dress up your cat for a special occasion or a celebration. While cats should not wear clothing or hats for long periods of time, you can use an item, such as a hat, to take a cute picture or make a short video. Use paper to make a fun, whimsical party hat for your cat to wear and customize it with decorations or drawings to make it unique.

Instructions

    • 1

Fold a sheet of 8 1/2-by-11 inch construction paper in half. Fold it in half again. Unfold the paper, which is now divided along the fold lines into quarters.

    • 2

Cut out 1/4 of the sheet of construction paper, following the fold lines. Use this size to make your hat.

    • 3

Fold the paper in half horizontally. Fold it in half again. Unfold the paper once, leaving it folded in half.

    • 4

Fold down the upper right-hand corner of the already folded end of the page until the corner aligns with the previously folded line down the center of the paper. Fold down the upper left-hand corner the same way, to form a triangle at the top, with some extra space below the triangle.

    • 5

Slip your fingers between the bottom flaps and fold the top one up toward the tip of the triangle. Flip the hat over and fold the other bottom flap up in the same manner.

    • 6

Place your fingers between the bottom flaps and pull the front and back sides outward, to form a triangular-shaped hat.

    • 7

Cut two pieces of yarn, about 6 inches each. Tape the top of each piece of yarn to the middle of the inside of each side of the hat.

    • 8

Place the hat on your cat, with each side of the hat facing toward an ear so that the hat sits vertically on the head, nestled comfortably between the ears.

    • 9

Tie the yarn into a bow on your cat's chin to keep the hat in place, trimming any excess yarn if necessary, depending on the size of your cat's head.
