How to Make an Easy Hammock for Cats

Thirty-three percent of U.S. households own at least one cat, making approximately 86.4 million owned cats in this country, according to U.S. Pet Ownership Statistics. Cat owners are devoted to improving the lives of their pets, including providing food, grooming and accessories. Hammocks are ideal accessories for cats because they offer a different method for relaxation. The use of hammocks can allow cats to enjoy the cool breeze, while being rocked steadily in a light canvas. With only a few household materials, you can create a comfortable hammock for your cat to sleep or lounge in during nice summer days.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a large a pillow case. Be sure it is big and wide enough to accommodate your cat's weight and height measurements. Turn the pillowcase inside out. Take a double layer of high loft batting, place it flat on the table and put the pillow case on top the high loft batting.

    • 2

Cut the high loft batting around the edge about 1 inch smaller than the pillowcase's edges.

    • 3

Place the batting inside of the pillow. Either pull the inside-put pillow back to its normal side while holding onto the batting. As an alternative, stuff the batting into the pillowcase as you would a pillow. Be sure to flatten high loft batting evenly into the case.

    • 4

Sew the opening of the pillowcase. Lay the pillowcase against a flat surface and feel the high loft batting's location with your fingers. Sew around the outline of the batting through the pillowcase to secure its position.

    • 5

Cut four ribbons, approximately 4 inches in length each. Bend each ribbon and sew the ends, creating four individual loops. Stitch each loop to a corner of the pillowcase and attach a hook to each loop.

    • 6

Find a good spot to place your cat's hammock, such as between two sturdy chairs, on your porch, between two trees or beside your hammock.
