Catcraft: 4-Tier Cat Tree Assembly Instructions

Catcraft offers a three-tier cat tree that you can easily customize to add a fourth tier. The three-tier unit fits ceilings 8 to 9 feet high; a second kit allows you to extend the unit to fit higher ceilings. The cat tree offers multiple scratching posts and platforms that provide ample room for your cat to perch. The cat tree costs $40 to $70 as of 2011, so the units offer an affordable way to keep cats happy and occupied instead of damaging your furniture and curtains.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the first Catcraft box. Each cat tree kit contains one base, three platforms, three main posts, one spring-tension post and a plastic rod with a rubberized ceiling protector. You'll also have a bag of hardware. Separate the base and platforms. Open the second box and remove one main post and one platform. Store the rest of that second kit in a convenient place to use for replacement parts.

    • 2

Inspect the carpeting on each post and platform section. Catcraft glues the carpeting into place in the factory. The glue can loosen over time so you'll need to add additional glue or use a staple gun to secure the carpeting for your cat's safety.

Gather the bolt, washer, base and one main post. Place the washer over the end of the bolt before inserting the bolt through the hole on the underside of the base. The main post has an embedded nut. Twist the post onto the end of the bolt until it is snug. During this process, the bolt may start spinning. Insert the hex key into the end of the bolt to hold the bolt in place while you finish tightening the post.

    • 4

Set the base and newly attached post section on the floor. The top of the post has a bolt sticking out. Place the drilled hole on one of the platforms over the bolt. Screw another post onto the bolt to secure the platform. Continue this process until three platforms are in place; you should have a total of four posts.

    • 5

Place the drilled hole of the fourth platform over the end of the fourth post. Take the spring-tension post and screw it onto the bolt atop the fourth post. Carry the cat tree to the area where you plan to install it.

    • 6

Insert the plastic tension rod into the top of the spring-tension post and pull the rod down as far as possible. Set the cat tree into place and slowly release the tension rod. Make sure the rubberized ceiling protector is even and gripping the ceiling firmly. Your finished cat tree should include the base, four regular posts, four platforms and the tension post.
