Exercise Equipment for Cats

Like humans, our feline counterparts need exercise to live a long and healthy life. While it may seem like a challenge to get your furry friend off the couch, adding a few interesting toys to your home will encourage him to play.
  1. Scratching Posts

    • Scratching is a natural and healthy way for your cat to get exercise, so providing him with equipment is necessary. Inexpensive cardboard posts can be found in the pet section of department stores, while large cat trees can be found in pet specialty stores.

    Enclosures

    • Enclosures allow your cat access to the outside while preventing him from getting out. Shelves, faux trees, and and other equipment can be added for more interest.

    Toys

    • Even the most domesticated cat has the desire to chase down prey, so toys that mimic the look or actions of prey may entice your pet. These types of toys often have feathers or look like mice to bring out that instinct.

    Climbing Structures

    • Cats love to climb, and providing them with furniture of their own early on will help spare your furniture. Climbing trees should be covered in carpet or rope to allow for traction, and multiple levels will tempt your cat to play.

    Play Together

    • Perhaps the best way to get your cat to play is to play with him. The social interaction and attention will keep him far more entertained than expecting him to play alone.
