How to Make Felted Cat Toys

Cat toys are a multimillion dollar business. Take a visit to the pet department, local pet store, or pet supply store and you will see why. People spend a lot of money on their lovable furballs, but you can make your cat a fun toy with very little spent out of your pocket. A simple mouse made out of felt will provide hours of entertainment for your feline.

Instructions

    • 1

Print out your template and cut out your pieces (see Resources).

    • 2

Pin your pieces to your felt and cut them out.

    • 3

Remove the pins and paper pieces. You now have all of the pieces for your mouse.

    • 4

Cut a piece of your dark brown floss and thread your needle. Mark a small dot on both of your side pieces for your eyes. Create your eyes with your needle and thread. They can be as simple as an "X" or make a French knot.

    • 5

Pin your side pieces together with the right sides facing out.

    • 6

Tie a knot in one end of your yarn and place the other end in between your two side pieces.

    • 7

Thread your needle with your light brown floss and whipstitch the pieces together.

    • 8

Place your outer and inner ear pieces together and cut a slit halfway up. Tack them in place with a couple stitches.

    • 9

Sew your ears on with your light brown floss.

    • 10

Pin your bottom piece to one of the side pieces and use a whipstitch to attach. Continue whipstitching around to the other side. Remember to leave an opening for the stuffing.

    • 11

Stuff your mouse with some cotton batting, a jingle bell and some catnip (depending on the cat).

    • 12

Whipstitch the opening close and your mouse is ready for play.
