How to Make Cat Condo Scratcher

You can use an old commercial-sized ice cream tub to make a cat condo for your cat that is covered in carpeting on which your feline friend can sharpen his claws. This cat condo can be put on its side so that your cat can use the outside as a scratching post and hide on the inside. Your cat will also enjoy rolling this large tube around.

Things You'll Need

  • Cardboard round 5-gallon ice cream container (See tip) Scissors or utility knife Spray bottle with water Gorilla glue (or other super strong glue) Carpet scraps to cover the exterior of the tub (a long sheet 18-by-36 inches long for most tubs) (See tip) Two small C-clamps

Instructions

    • 1

Get the ice cream container from you local frozen treat shop. Just go at closing time and ask if they have any extras that they would give you. You could also use a sturdy cardboard box if you cannot get the ice cream tub. Thoroughly wash the container before use.

    • 2

Cut the top and bottom from the 5-gallon ice cream tub. You will have a large tube shape.

    • 3

Lightly spray the exterior of the ice cream tub with the spray bottle of water.

    • 4

Cover both the back of the carpeting and the outside of the ice cream tub with lines of Gorilla glue.

    • 5

Wrap the carpeting around the ice cream tub to completely cover it.

    • 6

Clamp the ends of the carpeting down to the tub for 12 to 24 hours to let the glue dry.

    • 7

When the glue is dry, test the carpet to ensure that it holds. Then give the condo to your cat and watch him have fun scratching his claws and hiding in his new house.
