Instructions
Building a Two Story Kitty Condo
Decide which ottoman is going to be the bottom level of the kitty condo. Leaving the top on, set the ottoman right-side up on a flat surface. Using the marker, draw an opening on the front of the ottoman. This can be in any shape and location on the front wall, as long as it is big enough for your cat to comfortably fit through. Use the utility knife to cut the opening out.
Remove the top of the second ottoman and set aside. Flip this one onto its side so that the top opening becomes the front. Take the top lid off the first ottoman, and center the second ottoman on top of it. Keep the opening facing front and use the epoxy or superglue to attach the second ottoman to the lid of the first. Allow the bond to set per the instructions on the bottle or container. Replace the lid on top of the first (bottom) ottoman, creating the second story.
Attach Velcro strips to the outside (top) of the lid you set aside, one in each corner and a larger one in the center. The pieces of Velcro should be at least 2 inches long for the outer pieces, and a 3-by-3 square in the center to ensure a secure bond. Repeat the Velcro placement on one side of the bottom ottoman.
Cut the scrap pieces of carpet to fit inside the lid of the second ottoman. The overhang that is typically used to keep the lid on the ottoman will be used to cover and hide the edges of the carpet so your cat does not snag his nails or teeth on them while playing. Using the epoxy or glue first, secure the carpet inside the top of the lid. Use the staple gun as extra security to keep the carpet from coming loose. Attach the lid with the carpet inside to the bottom level of the kitty condo, tugging gently to ensure that the Velcro has made a secure connection.
