How to Make a Cat Home Out of Cardboard

Cozy, dark spaces are ideal napping places for cats, which makes a cardboard box a fitting home. Giving your cat a safe home is important, especially if your cat sneaks into tight spaces, such as your closet, dresser drawers and laundry baskets. Cardboard can be made into a safe, suitable home for a cat, particularly if it is fastened and designed with doors and windows. If you want to make a secure home for your cat, make a cat condo out of cardboard.

Instructions

  1. Cutting Windows and Doors

    • 1
      Distmantle two cardboard boxes.

Take apart two boxes of the same size so they can lay flat on a cutting mat.

    • 2

Design a door and windows on the first cardboard box with a pencil. Draw windows on the second cardboard box.

    • 3

Cut the designs out of the cardboard box with a utility knife.

    Assembly

    • 4

Coat the bottom flaps of the first box, which has the door, with hot glue from a hot-glue gun. Fold the flaps together. Hold them together securely until the glue dries.

    • 5

Cut the long-sided opening flaps off of the first cardboard box with a utility knife. Slice off half of one of the remaining short-sided flaps.

    • 6

Coat the edges of the short-sided flaps with hot glue. Fold them in, and hold them securely until the glue dries.

    • 7

Coat the opening flaps of the second cardboard box with hot glue. Fold them together, and hold them securely until the glue dries.

    • 8

Cut off the long-sided flaps from the bottom of the second cardboard box. Slice half of the remaining short-sided flaps, so they will be aligned with the hole in the first box.

    • 9

Fold the short-sided flaps in. Coat the edges with a hot glue gun, and hold them securely until the glue dries.

    • 10

Coat the top edges of the first box with hot glue. Align the second box on top of it. Hold the boxes securely until the glue dries.
