Things You'll Need
- 20-Inch-by-12-inch piece of cloth
- 12 Inches of sturdy ribbon
- 4 Metal "S" hooks
- Ruler
- Scissors
- Sewing machine or needle and thread
- Clothes iron
- Ironing board
Instructions
Fold each side of the cloth over twice by one-quarter of an inch. Iron the folded edges down flat. Pin the folded edges to keep them flat.
Cut the ribbon into four equal-sized pieces. Fold each piece of ribbon in half; then pin each ribbon to a different corner of the cloth, making loops at each corner. The ribbon should be pinned to the corner by holding the cut ends together and overlapping them with the cloth by at least three-quarters of an inch. Straight pins should be used to temporarily hold the cloth and ribbon together.
Sew the ribbon in place and sew down the edges of the cloth. When sewing the ribbon to the cloth, make the attachment as sturdy as possible by sewing the shape of a box with an "X" through the middle of it. When finished, cut off all loose threads and any edges of ribbon that hang down.
Hook the metal "S" hooks through the ribbon loops. You shouldn't bend the hooks closed because you'll need to remove them for cleaning. Use the hooks to hang the cat hammock.
When the cat hammock needs to be cleaned, take it down and remove the hooks. The cat hammock can be hand-washed or cleaned in the washing machine on the regular wash cycle with like colors.
