DIY Cat Tower

Just like human fingernails, cat claws grow throughout a cat's life. Cat towers allow your feline pet to scratch and strip away old pieces of their claws. If you do not provide a scratching tower for your cat, she might scratch and damage other pieces of furniture. Outside cats commonly use tree trunks to groom their claws. Cat towers simulate tree trunks for your indoor cat and provide him with something interesting on which to sharpen his claws.

Instructions

    • 1

Staple a 30-inch by 18-inch piece of carpet securely around a 4-by-4 pole using a staple gun. Sink ten evenly-spaced staples vertically down each linear corner of the post. Cut off any excess carpet.

    • 2

Staple around the perimeter of an 18-inch square piece of carpet onto a 3/4-inch particle board also measuring 18 inches square using a staple gun.

    • 3

Position the particle board on top of the post, so that the particle board's carpet faces down and the particle board is centered on the post.

    • 4

Place a washer on a screw, and drill the screw through the center of the particle board and into the post. This will secure the particle board.

    • 5

Flip the tower over to rest on the particle board. The post will now stand upright.
