DIY Cat Habitat

Cats are mischievous creatures who often love to pounce and explore. Because of their lively nature, indoor cats often get themselves into trouble around the home, usually by knocking over breakables and jumping onto tables. It is important to have a habitat that your cat can call home. This habitat should be a safe place for your beloved feline to play. This will allow for your cat to still have fun, but in a controlled environment specifically designed for your feline friend.

Instructions

Clear out a space or room designated for your cat. If there are open outlets or cords within the area make sure to hide them using cord and outlet protectors. Cats are curious animals; the last thing you want is for your beloved pet to get an electrical shock. Make sure to thoroughly remove any other dangers from this area, such as poisonous plants or items that could fall and break.

Purchase cat toys for the habitat from your local pet shop. Cat nip toys, ball with bells in them, and mechanical mice will allow your cats to enjoy their new space.

    • 3

Add a cat hideaway cube, cat bed or other structure as a place for your feline friend to play. Cat structures come in a variety of sizes, so be sure to purchase one that is well suited for the space you have designated. Purchase a structure that has carpet on it. Carpeted structures are soft enough to make great napping areas.

Invest in a cat scratching post, if your cat is not de-clawed. Cats need to periodically sharpen their claws and having a scratching post will allow them to do so. If a scratching post is not present, then chances are your cat may sharpen its claws on furniture or carpeting.

Add a litter box will to show your cat that this habitat is your pet's designated area. Make sure to fill the box with fresh litter and scoop up waste, daily. If you are worried about the cat box smell, consider purchasing odor eliminating cat litter which can be found at most drug stores, pet shops and super markets.
