Things You'll Need
- Empty plastic bottle
- Paper bag
- Light-up toys
- Fishing pole
- Yarn
- Catnip
Instructions
Remove all labels from a 12- or 16-oz. bottles. Sanitize the bottle by washing and drying.
Place light-up toys or small plastic bits inside the empty plastic bottle. There is no need to purchase cat-specific items from a pet store. Small, unused children's toys from around the house will work perfectly well.
Place catnip into a jingle ball for a different toy. If catnip is not available or desired, proceed to the next step. Be sure that both children and adults wash their hands following the handling of catnip.
Attach bits of yarn to the jingle ball. Try mixing it up with different colors. Though the cat may not necessarily appreciate your aesthetic touches, your children almost certainly will.
Attach the jingle ball to the end of the fishing line. Make sure to tie knots tightly and use a fishing pole with a strong line so that your cat doesn't snap the line or break the knot. Cast the line and watch the cat chase after it. If you don't have a kid's fishing pole available, you can attach the ball directly to the end of yarn or fishing line.
Place light-up toys or catnip inside of a paper bag. Watch in delight as the cat tries to open the paper bag to get inside. As this may be messy, you may wish to do it on a back porch or other outside area if possible.
