Here's why:
* Claws are connected to a tendon: This tendon runs from the claw through the toe to the muscle in the cat's paw.
* Partially retractable: When the cat is relaxed, the tendon is relaxed, allowing the claw to retract into the sheath.
* Extended claws: When the cat flexes its toe, the tendon pulls the claw out of the sheath.
This semi-retraction system allows cats to keep their claws sharp and protected while still being able to use them for climbing, hunting, and defense.
So, while Siamese cats can partially retract their claws, they can't completely hide them like some other animals.
