How to Take Your New Cat Home

Pets are often considered members of the human family. Bringing a new cat home sets the tone for the initial relationship between the humans and the cat. When a cat leaves a place it knows well, such as an animal shelter, a foster home or a breeder's residence, the cat is anxious and fearful. It is up to the adoptive family to make the transition smooth and comfortable for the cat.

Instructions

    • 1

Bring a pet carrier with you to transport the cat to its new home. Pet stores sell a variety of carriers in a range of styles, sizes and colors. The carrier gives the cat shelter and makes the trip less frightening.

    • 2

Place a small blanket or towel on the bottom of the carrier to create a comfortable environment for the cat.

    • 3

Bring a replacement towel. Some cats vomit from motion sickness and stress.
