How to Get a CFA Blue Slip

A CFA blue slip registers a kitten with the Cat Fanciers' Association, or CFA. Registration proves that the kitten is a member of his or her breed. Registration is not necessary for kittens who will strictly be pets, but many owners still like to register their pets. Kittens who will be shown or bred must be registered. If you are the owner of a new kitten, you must get your blue slip from the breeder. If you are a breeder, you will get the blue slips from the CFA when you register your litter.

    • 2

Fill out the application with the full names and registration numbers for both the sire and the dam (dad and mom), the date of the birth, the breed of the kittens, and the number of kittens who survived. Add credit card information if that is how you wish to pay the fee.

    • 3

Mail the application and a check or money order if you are not paying by credit card. The address for the CFA is The Cat Fanciers' Association, Inc., 1805 Atlantic Avenue, Manasquan, NJ 08736. The registration fee is $10, at the time of publication.

    Email Registration

Sign up for a user account at CFA.org. This is free. You will need to supply your name and address, and create a username and password.

    • 5

Log in to the website to complete registration. You will need the registration number and the date of registration for both parents. If you do not own the sire, supply the name and email address of the owner. Wait for him or her to respond to an email from the CFA before proceeding. Enter the date of birth of the litter and total number of living kittens. Also supply your breeder and cattery numbers. New breeders who do not have these numbers must register by mail.

Press the "check out" button to enter your credit card information and finish the order. At the time of publication, the price for registering online is $8 if the litter is up to four months old, and $13 after. Once your credit card has been verified, the CFA will send a PDF copy of each blue slip. You may then print these out to give to buyers.
