How to Get Kittens to Calm Down

Whether your grown cat has just given birth to kittens or you adopted kittens yourself, getting them to calm down may seem overwhelming, especially if the kittens are still very young and getting to know the new world around them. Working with kittens to calm them down is possible by using a few at-home techniques and methods depending on your own options and resources available. Although calming kittens down does not require extensive skills, it requires patience and understanding to comfort and calm the kittens based on each of their own personalities.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase cat toys for your kittens, as they will have plenty of playful energy to spread around throughout the stages of growing. Cat scratch posts, toy mice and other basic toys (such as balls and stuffed catnip toys) are all options to keep your kittens occupied in their playful moods.

    • 2

Play with your kittens each day to develop a routine of a specific time they will play. This will help cats to stay on track with their own schedule of sleeping and eating if you play with them consistently at the same time each day. Playing with the kittens a couple of hours before bedtime is ideal to get them to sleep at the same time as you.

    • 3

Keep the kittens in a safe and familiar environment to prevent anxiety or unusual behavior from your kittens (such as getting sick or becoming aggressive around others).

    • 4

Spend time with each kitten one at a time to show the kitten attention by petting and snuggling together. This will help calm the cat down if he or she is frightened or nervous.
