How to Introduce New Cat Combinations of a Male Manx & a Younger Female Manx

The Manx is a breed of cat best known for being having either a very short tail, or no tail at all. Manx cats come in many colors and patterns. It is not uncommon to have two Manx cats living together and, with some patience, the introduction of an older male Manx to a younger female can be a smooth process.

Instructions

    • 1

Confine the cat that is new to the household to a spare bedroom or bathroom. After placing the new cat into their temporary living space, place the cat carrier that was used to bring the cat home in the main part of your home and let your other cat investigate it.

    • 2

Keep the two cats separate for at least one week. This separation helps the new cat get used to her new environment and allows your original cat to slowly grow accustomed to having a second cat in the house. During this time period, your first cat will likely spend time sniffing under the door and lingering near the new cat's living space.

    • 3

Introduce the two cats after the separation period by partially opening the door and allowing the cats to meet and to move through each other's living spaces for an hour each morning and evening. Monitor the cats and do not allow them to interact alone. Put out favorite treats and special toys to establish pleasant associations.

    • 4

Allow the cats to interact unsupervised after one week of monitored meetings by allowing the new cat free reign of the house. The two cats may hiss and swat lightly at each other for a few days before fully settling in to their new friendship.
