Things You'll Need
- Compost box
- Natural litter
- Compost-enhancing bacteria, small package
- Topsoil
Instructions
Place natural cat litters into a litter box. Natural sources of cat litters are the best when trying to create compost. A sawdust-filled litter box is ideal as the sawdust can mix with the topsoil and bacteria to provide a better overall compost result. Pine, recycled newspaper and cedar work as well.
Place a compost bin in a front or backyard, ready to be used. Compost bins are readily available for purchase at a variety of eco-friendly stores. Primarily used for food waste, the compost bin can be used to store disposed cat waste as well.
Set a bottom layer of recycled newspaper into the compost bin. Place a small amount of topsoil mixed with compost-enhancing bacteria over the recycled newspaper until it's covered. Add the cat waste directly into the bin, cover the waste with a small amount of additional topsoil mixture. Store for at least 18 months before using the compost to fertilize plants to eliminate risks of tapeworm and e.coli forming.
