How to Remove Cat Pee From a Carpet With White Vinegar

When your cat is spooked or just cannot make it to his litter box in time, he may leave a cat pee stain on your carpet. You may not be interested in spending money on pet stain carpet cleaners, especially if the spot on your carpet is rather small, and the cat does not normally have accidents. White vinegar can be combined with other items in order to safely remove odors and stains caused by the cat pee. The vinegar should also prevent the cat from repeating the same behavior in the same spot.

Instructions

    • 1

Blot the cat pee from your carpet using a cloth or paper towels. Never scrub the pee into the carpet; doing so could rub both the odor and stain into the carpet.

    • 2

Mix an equal amount of warm water and white vinegar into a bowl or spray bottle, depending on how you wish to distribute the liquids onto the carpet.

    • 3

Pour or spray the liquid over the carpet. Make sure all of the stain is covered.

    • 4

Add about 2 to 3 tablespoons of baking soda onto the cat pee stain. The exact amount depends upon the size of the stain; more baking soda can be used, if necessary.

    • 5

Scrub the cat pee stain with a soft brush, such as a soft-bristled toothbrush. Let the stained area dry.

    • 6

Vacuum the carpet until all of the residue has been removed. Examine the stain, and repeat steps 2 through 6, if needed.
