Homemade Cat Odor Remover

Cats provide companionship, love, and entertainment to millions of people. Cats are typically clean animals that regularly bathe themselves and rarely have an unpleasant odor. Unfortunately, those cute, furry balls of love can create a smelly mess with their urine. Cat urine has an unpleasant aroma that can last for months after the incident. When dealing with cat urine, you must neutralize the protein that is naturally found in the urine as well as eliminating the odor.

Instructions

    • 1

If the cat urine is fresh, blot up as much of it as possible using paper towels. Pour equal parts distilled white vinegar and cool water into a spray bottle. Vinegar is a natural deodorizer and neutralizer.

    • 2

Spray the spot liberally with the vinegar-water mixture. Vinegar has a pungent aroma, but the vinegar odor dissipates rather quickly and will naturally remove the cat urine odor.

    • 3

      Allow the vinegar to air-dry.

    • 4

Sprinkle baking soda liberally on the carpet or upholstery where the accident occurred.

    • 5

Allow the baking soda to sit on the spot for at least a few hours, but preferably overnight.

    • 6

Remove the baking soda with your vacuum. Secure the upholstery attachment to your vacuum to remove the baking soda from upholstery.

    • 7

Repeat the process until all traces of the odor are gone.
