Value of Ragdoll Kittens

While kittens of any kind are adorable, ragdoll kittens are often sought after because of their cotton-ball appearance and gentle demeanor. However, unlike many other breeds of cats, ragdolls are still relatively rare, so people who want a ragdoll kitten may find that locating one at a shelter is next to impossible. Usually, you must purchase ragdoll kittens directly from breeders.
  1. Breed

    • The ragdoll cat is a larger breed of cat. Ragdoll aficionados often claim that this is the most loving and agreeable breed. But their personality is not their only asset. They have long, fluffy coats. They come in six colors and four different marking patterns. Most often, they are white or cream colored with seal or cream points, so the extremities are a darker color than the rest of the body. Their distinguishing feature is their large, blue eyes.

    Prevalence

    • Ragdoll cats and kittens are not very common, which adds to their appeal and their value. They are uncommon because the breed is so new. It originated in the 1960s when Ann Baker of California developed it by breeding a Persian with a Birman cat, then breeding one of the offspring with a Burmese cat.

    Monetary Value

    • Expect to dish out a fair amount of cash for a ragdoll kitten. According to the Ragdoll Cat Guide, they go for $400 or more. Kittens from champion bloodlines can go for hundreds over that price. Another factor that may affect price is coat color, as many people prefer the lightest colors and markings.

    Personal Value

    • The value of ragdoll kittens isn't just measurable in how much they are worth. People who want a dog but can't have one where they live may consider getting a ragdoll kitten. These cats are said to have puppy-like personalities because they follow their owners around, much like puppies do. They also tend to be more interested in humans and less aloof than most other breeds.

    Finding a Ragdoll

    • You may find a reputable breeder of ragdoll kittens through the Cat Fanciers' Association or another cat organization. Before purchasing your ragdoll kitten, visit the breeder to make sure the operation is up to your standards. Kittens should not be released until they are at least 12 weeks of age, and they should have their basic inoculations.
