How to Get Rid of Cat Hair on Furniture

If you let your cat on your furniture, you will inevitably find cat hair on your upholstery. Cat hair on your furniture is unsightly and often transfers onto your clothes when you sit on the furniture. There is no need to get out the vacuum cleaner everyday to remove cat hair from furniture. There are a several different ways to quickly clean cat hair from furniture.

Things You'll Need

  • Masking tape
  • Sponge or rag
  • Dish soap
  • Used fabric softener sheets
  • Rubber cleaning glove

Instructions

  1. Masking Tape

    • 1

      Place pieces of masking tape on the furniture where the pet hair is located.

      Pull the tape off the furniture with a quick, sharp motion.

      Reapply the tape to the affected areas, if necessary, until all of the cat hair is removed. Alternatively, wrap a piece of masking tape around your hand with the sticky side facing outward. Blot the furniture with your hand to lift the cat hair. Switch to clean pieces of tape as one becomes filled with hair.

    Sponge or Rag

      Run a dry sponge over your furniture. Use a light, sweeping motion to remove the hair. Alternatively, you can use a slightly damp rag in the same manner.

      Wipe off the sponge over the trash can or outdoors as it becomes filled with hair.

      Continue wiping down the furniture, cleaning the hair from the sponge frequently, until you have removed all of the hair from the furniture.

      Wash the sponge with soapy water when finished. Allow the sponge to air dry.

    Fabric Softener Sheets

      Save your used fabric softener sheets from the dryer. There is no need to waste a new sheet; an old one will work better.

      Wipe the fabric softener sheet over the furniture.

      Toss out one sheet and switch to a new used fabric softener sheet as one becomes filled with cat hair. Continue this process until all of the hair is gone.

    Rubber Glove

      Put on a rubber cleaning glove. Run the glove under the faucet for a few seconds to moisten the rubber.

      Run your gloved hand over the furniture to pick up the cat hair.

      Rinse out the glove under the faucet as it becomes filled with hair. Make sure to have a drain stopper in the sink to catch the hair so it does not clog the sink.
